George William Russell was an Irish poet, journalist, nationalist, mystic and painter, known by the pseudonym "AE". A theosophist, he was, with W.B. Yeats, a leader of the Irish Renaissance and a co-founder of Dublin's Abbey Theatre. He edited "Irish Homestead" (1906-1923) and the "Irish Statesman" (1923-1930). Shorter worked as an editor with a number of British papers and journals, such as the ILLUSTRATED LONDON NEWS, before founding and editing three early twentieth century journals: SKETCH, SPHERE, and the TATLER.
